It works on all tides but is best at mid to high, handling south to southwest swells in the 3-8 foot range with morning offshore winds from the north. Strong currents and a shallow reef make experience essential, and early mornings offer the cleanest conditions before trade winds pick up. The dry season from May to October delivers the most consistent swells, with June often the standout month. The area is remote — a 2-3 hour drive from Bima airport — with limited infrastructure, but several surf camps line the beach at Hu'u village.
