Nayarit surfing

Nayarit

Sayulita is a charming surf town on Mexico's Riviera Nayarit coast, famous for its gentle, consistent waves that make it one of the best beginner and longboard destinations in the country. The main bay features two breaks: a mellow right-hander in front of the village ideal for longboarding, and a faster left near the campground that offers more punch for shortboarders. Waves typically run 1 to 2 meters over a sandy bottom, with west-southwest swells providing the most consistent surf. The bay's north-facing orientation provides natural shelter from south and southwest swells, keeping conditions manageable most of the year. December through April brings the best north swells, though surfable waves roll in year-round. The biggest challenge here is crowds — the popular sandbar break gets packed during winter high season. Beyond the surf, Sayulita offers a lively town center with restaurants, shops, and a relaxed bohemian atmosphere that has made it a magnet for surf travelers of all experience levels.
