North Narrabeen, known locally as Northy, is one of Sydney's most iconic waves and among Australia's most consistent beach breaks. The spot is famous for its long, reeling left-handers that peel off a sandbar shaped by the Narrabeen Lagoon's outflow, though the sand shifts considerably and local knowledge is invaluable. On its day with a clean NE swell and NW offshore winds, the lefts are genuinely world-class, offering long walls with hollow sections. Best surfed from autumn through winter (March-August) when southerly groundswells combine with favourable winds, April being statistically the cleanest month. The paddle-out from the beach can be challenging once the swell picks up. Be warned: this is one of Sydney's most heavily localised lineups. Water temps range from 16-20C in winter (4/3mm wetsuit) to 22-25C in summer (boardshorts). A proven CT-level wave that has hosted multiple WSL events.
