Stad Peninsula surfing

Stad Peninsula

Hoddevik is a stunning white-sand beach break tucked beneath towering 100-meter cliffs on Norway's remote Stad Peninsula, making it one of the most dramatically situated surf spots in the world. The beach picks up very consistent North Atlantic swells, with a reliable right-hander forming along the northern breakwater and additional peaks through the center of the bay on mid-sized southwest swells, though anything over 6 feet tends to close out. The prime season runs from September through March, with December and January delivering the most consistent surf, though water temperatures drop to around 9.5°C requiring a quality winter wetsuit, boots, gloves, and hood. The mellow whitewater close to shore makes it surprisingly accessible for beginners, while the outer peaks offer more challenge for experienced surfers. Surrounded by untouched Nordic meadows and steep mountains with no crowds to speak of, Hoddevik offers an Arctic surfing experience unlike anywhere else on earth.
