Zihuatanejo surfing

Zihuatanejo

Troncones is a laid-back surf village on Mexico's Pacific coast near Zihuatanejo in Guerrero state, offering a rare variety of point breaks, sandbars, and beach breaks along 2.5 miles of coastline. The main attraction, Troncones Point, delivers long peeling lefts that draw comparisons to Trestles, suitable for both longboards and shortboards, holding up to double-overhead surf before closing out. Two distinct swell seasons keep the waves coming year-round: southern hemisphere swells and hurricanes from April through October bring the biggest, hollower waves, while November through March offers consistent waist-to-chest-high surf with excellent shape and the best weather. The bottom is a mix of sand and cobblestone, and mid-tide pushes provide the best conditions — low tide exposes rocks that can poke above the surface. The village remains refreshingly undeveloped compared to other Mexican surf towns, offering an authentic experience with warm water, uncrowded lineups, and easy access from Zihuatanejo's airport.
