Duppies

St. Lucy, Barbados

IntermediateAdvanced

Hidden gem for skilled surfers and thrill seekers.

Duppies is a powerful right-hand reef break on Barbados's rugged north coast in the parish of St. Lucy, breaking over a flat coral shelf a fair way offshore. The wave needs a solid north swell to turn on, starting at head-high and becoming a serious, barrel-producing wave at double overhead, best surfed at low to mid tide. Access requires a hike down a cliff trail, and surfers should paddle north along the cliffs before heading out to avoid a strong southward current and the rocky impact zone known locally as the bone yard. The remote setting and challenging conditions keep crowds thin, especially midweek, making it a rewarding score for experienced surfers willing to put in the effort. Booties are recommended for the sharp coral reef, and this is strictly an advanced wave — bring a shortboard or step-up depending on size.
