Maui, Hawaii
Honolua Bay is a premier right-hand point break on Maui's northwest coast, widely considered one of Hawaii's most perfect waves when conditions align. Large north-northwest winter swells wrap into the bay and peel along the rocky reef for up to a quarter mile, producing long walls with hollow barrel sections through areas known as Coconuts, The Cave, and Keiki Bowls. The wave works best at 6 to 20 feet on swells from the NNW to NW, with light east-northeast to southeast offshore winds, and the prime season runs from November through February. Access is via a short trail through the trees at the top of the bay, and the paddle out can be challenging on bigger days. The lineup draws Maui's best surfers and visiting pros, making it very competitive when it is on. Honolua Bay is a Marine Life Conservation District, so the surrounding natural beauty above and below the water is exceptional.
