Punta Hermosa, Peru
Punta Rocas is one of Peru's most storied surf breaks, a powerful right-hand reef break in Punta Hermosa that has hosted numerous national championships and international events just 40 kilometers south of Lima. The wave breaks over a rocky reef bottom on south to southwest swells, handling sizes from 3 to 15 feet, with the best conditions coming on east offshore winds at low to mid tide. The right-hander delivers thick, juicy sections with hollow pockets, especially on incoming tides, while a less consistent left also breaks on the opposite side of the peak. Water temperatures are cool thanks to the Humboldt Current, requiring at least a spring suit year-round. The spot attracts a talented local crew and can get crowded when conditions align, so respect the lineup hierarchy and watch for rocks and rip currents on bigger days.
