Optimal conditions come from southwest swells with northwest offshore winds, working from 3 to 15 feet, with the prime season running June through August. The main takeoff at Bells Bowl connects through Rincon and into the inside section, offering long, drawn-out walls with powerful carving potential. The water is cold year-round, and the lineup draws committed locals and traveling surfers alike, making crowd management a factor on good days.
