Gold Coast, Australia
Burleigh Heads is a world-class right-hand point break on the Gold Coast that fires on south-southeast swells, producing fast, barrelling walls that freight-train down the point for up to 200 metres over a bottom of boulders and sand. The wave comprises four distinct sections that only rarely link up into a single ride, and when they do it demands serious leg endurance to hold the line through consecutive barrel sections. It works at all tides but is generally best on the lower half, with southwest winds holding the face open. The sand that shapes the legendary inside section washes out of the Tallebudgera River and is sculpted by prevailing south swells. Winter, particularly June, delivers the most consistent conditions, and the headland attracts large crowds of experienced locals whenever a solid swell hits.
