Covelong Point is India's pioneering surf village, located about 40km south of Chennai on the Coromandel Coast. It features both a right-hand reef break and beach break peaks that produce short to medium-length rides of 50-100m in the 2-7ft range. The best swells come from the east-southeast, generated by Bay of Bengal cyclonic activity and monsoon systems, with the autumn and winter months (October-February) delivering the most consistent surf. Offshore winds blow from the west-northwest, and the break works best around low tide. The reef is relatively shallow but manageable, and multiple surf schools make this one of the most accessible breaks in India. Water is warm year-round so boardshorts are standard.
