Devon, England
Croyde is a high-quality beach break in North Devon, part of a coastline that holds UNESCO World Surfing Reserve status, and is widely regarded as one of the best beach breaks in England. It produces both lefts and rights over a sandy bottom, with the best waves arriving on west-southwest swells in the 4-to-8-foot range combined with east offshore winds. At low tide the sandbars can serve up fast, hollow barrels that rival anything in the UK, while higher tides suit less experienced surfers. The wave is remarkably consistent, picking up swell year-round with winter delivering the biggest and most powerful surf. Access is easy with parking behind the beach and a surf-oriented village with shops and hire facilities nearby. Croyde gets very crowded, particularly on weekends and during summer, so early mornings and weekday sessions offer the best chance of uncrowded peaks.
