North Island, New Zealand

Endless peeling chilly lefts, surfable at all sizes.

Raglan is a series of world-class left-hand point breaks on New Zealand's North Island west coast, made famous by the 1966 film The Endless Summer. The three main breaks — Indicators, Whale Bay, and Manu Bay — link up on solid southwest swells, offering rides of up to 300 metres over a smooth volcanic rock reef sitting at 1–3 metres depth. Waves typically range from 3 to 8 feet, with the most consistent conditions arriving between March and September on southwest groundswells, and offshore winds from the east or southeast. Indicators delivers heavy barrels on bigger days, while Manu Bay is more workable and popular with all skill levels. The lineup can get very crowded, especially at Manu Bay on clean swells, so patience and respect for locals are essential.
