Powerful river-mouth break with fast, hollow, heavy lefts.

La Bocana is a heavy, fast rivermouth break at the southern end of El Tunco village, one of El Salvador's most consistent and powerful waves. The cobblestone bottom shapes a wedging A-frame peak that produces a long, hollow left with dredging barrel sections and a shorter, punchier right, working best in the 2 to 6 foot range at mid tide. Southwest swells from the Pacific provide the fuel, and the spot can handle solid overhead surf before maxing out. This is an advanced-level wave — the steep takeoff, fast sections, and shallow cobblestone bottom make it unsuitable for beginners. Access is straightforward from the El Tunco beachfront, and the wave tends to draw a skilled local crowd. When the main Popoyo-area breaks are too crowded, La Bocana's intensity naturally keeps numbers in check.
