Brittany, France
La Torche is one of Brittany's most consistent surf spots, an exposed beach and point break on the Finistère coast that picks up every west and northwest Atlantic swell. The main attraction is a long, walling left that can peel for up to 200 metres along the point, while the beach section offers both lefts and rights over sand at all stages of the tide. Waves typically range from waist-high to well overhead, with the most powerful conditions during autumn and winter when Atlantic storms deliver solid groundswells from the west-southwest. Offshore winds blow from the east, and the spot works on a variety of swell angles. It is one of France's most popular surf beaches and regularly hosts national competitions, so expect crowds on good days. Strong currents can develop, particularly on bigger swells, but the sandy bottom keeps hazards relatively low for intermediate surfers and above.
