Galle, Sri Lanka
Midigama is a stretch of coastline near Galle in southern Sri Lanka that packs several distinct reef breaks into a short distance, making it one of the region's most versatile surf zones. The signature wave is Lazy Left, a long, peeling left-hander that can run for several hundred metres over deep reef at low tide, while Rams offers a short, shallow, semi-slabby right with genuine barrel sections suited to advanced surfers. A gentler right-hand break nearby caters well to beginners and longboarders on a deeper reef. Best swell direction is south-southwest with northerly offshore winds, and the prime season runs from November to April. Crowds are manageable, and the area is lined with surf-friendly guesthouses right on the beach, making Midigama an ideal base for an extended Sri Lankan surf trip.
