Nosara's main surf break at Playa Guiones is an exposed beach break with a sandy bottom and multiple shifting peaks that produce both lefts and rights suitable for all skill levels. Waves typically range from 3 to 6 feet and can reach 10 feet during the peak season from June to September, with the best swell direction from the west-northwest and south-southwest. The break works best on a rising tide from mid to high, and offshore winds from the northeast keep faces clean in the mornings. Long rides of over 300 metres are possible when the banks line up. Surfers should be aware of crocodiles near the Nosara river mouth and pay attention to posted warnings about rip currents.
