The Bay surf spot

The Bay

Imsouane, Morocco

BeginnerIntermediate

Sunny laid back town with long peeling right hand rides.

The Bay at Imsouane is arguably Morocco's longest wave, a mellow right-hand point break that can deliver rides up to 700 meters as Atlantic swells wrap perfectly into a natural amphitheater-shaped bay. The wave peels over soft sand with forgiving, predictable shoulders that give surfers time to link turns and work on style without pressure — making it one of North Africa's best spots for intermediate progression and longboard cruising. It handles swell from 2 to 10 feet, working best at low to mid tide with swell from the west through northwest directions, with the prime season running November through March when North Atlantic groundswells are most consistent. Summer brings smaller, warmer conditions ideal for beginners. For surfers wanting more challenge, Cathedral — a faster, hollower left-hand reef break — sits just around the headland. The fishing village of Imsouane itself offers a laid-back atmosphere with growing surf tourism infrastructure.
