Boat-access-only A-frames in a Costa Rican national park

Witch's Rock (Roca Bruja) is a world-class beach break inside Santa Rosa National Park, accessible only by a 45-minute boat ride from Playas del Coco. The break forms over a flat sandbar shaped by estuary deposits, producing powerful A-frame peaks with long lefts and rights that can peel for up to 100 metres. SW swells from May through November deliver the most consistent size, while December through April brings offshore winds and cleaner conditions. Best surfed on a rising or high tide, the wave is fast, heavy, and unforgiving with strong currents. The remote location and boat-only access keep crowds minimal but also mean there is no safety net if things go wrong. Water stays a tropical 25-30 degrees C year-round so boardshorts are the norm. The iconic rock formation jutting from the ocean at the south end of the beach completes one of Central America's most dramatic surf settings.
