Aguadilla, Puerto Rico

Fun right-hand break near Aguadilla pier with warm Caribbean water.

Crash Boat Beach in Aguadilla on Puerto Rico's northwest coast is a punchy beach break with reef sections that produces fast, hollow rights over a sandy bottom. Named after the rescue boats once stationed there by the US military at nearby Ramey Air Force Base, the wave lights up on northwest to north winter swells, working best in the 2 to 6 foot range with east offshore winds. Good surf can be found at all stages of the tide, and the sandy bottom in most sections makes it relatively forgiving for beginners and intermediates, though sea urchins, rips, and scattered rocks require awareness. The winter months, particularly December through February, deliver the most consistent conditions. The beach is easily accessible off Route 107 with good parking, and its clear turquoise water and laid-back atmosphere make it popular with both surfers and beachgoers.
