Middles is one of Puerto Rico's premier reef breaks, located in Isabela on the northwest coast, producing fast, powerful, barreling right-handers over shallow reef. The wave is a bowly, close-to-shore tube that lights up on north and northwest swells in the 3-7 foot range, with the best conditions coming from northeast swell combined with south offshore winds. Autumn is prime time, with November offering the most consistent quality surf, and the wave is frequently overhead throughout the surf season from October through March. The spot hosts the Corona Extra Pro Surf Circuit and draws a skilled local crowd — respect the lineup hierarchy and watch for rocks and shallow reef sections. Middles is best suited for intermediate to advanced surfers who are comfortable in hollow, powerful conditions; weekdays offer a reprieve from the weekend crowds.
