Epic left hand waves with small crowds for skilled surfers.

Maria's is one of the most iconic surf spots in Rincon, Puerto Rico, offering a long, peeling right-hander over a flat coral reef that rewards down-the-line speed and committed surfing. The wave tends to produce high-line walls rather than super bowly peaks, with NW groundswells and SE offshore trade winds creating the best conditions, predominantly during the winter season from December to March. Access in and out of the water requires navigating three keyholes in the coral — first-timers should watch experienced surfers to learn the entry points and avoid the abundant sea urchins on the shallow reef. The spot has deep historical roots in Puerto Rico's surf culture, named after a woman whose beachfront home became a gathering point for early surfers. Crowds during the winter season are notoriously heavy, with longboarders, shortboarders, bodyboarders, and visiting surfers all competing for waves. January offers the most consistent clean swells, and early morning sessions before the trade winds strengthen provide the best conditions.
