Isla de Lobos, Spain
La Derecha de Lobos is a long, reeling right-hand point break on the tiny island of Lobos, just off Fuerteventura's north coast. When solid northwest swells arrive, the jagged lava reef transforms into a 300-to-500-metre ride with distinct sections: an easy takeoff, a long open wall, a fast tube section, another wall, and a second barrel that may close out. At 6ft+ the sections link up into one continuous wave. Access requires a boat or kayak from Corralejo, and sea urchins carpet the shallow reef, making entry and exit treacherous. Strong currents and a challenging paddle out keep this spot experts-only. Best on mid tide with northwest swell and light southerly winds. The prime season is October through March.
