Viti Levu, Fiji
Sigatoka Rivermouth is an exposed river-mouth break on the Coral Coast of Viti Levu, Fiji, where shifting sand bars shaped by river silt create a variety of wave formations that change regularly. The primary wave is a challenging left-hander that, on larger south swells, can peel for over 300 metres from the outer reef across the rivermouth, though it also produces rights into the river channel on higher tides. The sandy bottom makes for more forgiving conditions than Fiji's famous reef passes, and the spot works at all stages of the tide with offshore winds from the north. Autumn is the most consistent season, with February offering rideable waves around 29% of the time, though summer tends to go mostly flat. Surfers should be aware of strong rip currents and the presence of sharks, which are commonly found around river mouths. The wave suits intermediate to advanced surfers and offers a more accessible, land-based alternative to Fiji's boat-access breaks like Cloudbreak.
