Bali, Indonesia
Uluwatu is Bali's most iconic surf break, a series of world-class left-hand reef breaks stacked along a dramatic limestone cliff on the Bukit Peninsula. The five main sections — The Bombie, Temples, Outside Corner, Racetracks, and The Peak — turn on at different tides and swell sizes, producing everything from long, carving walls to deep, spinning barrels in the 4 to 12 foot range. The best conditions arrive during the dry season from April to October, when consistent southwest groundswells meet offshore east-southeast winds, with mid to high tide preferred. Access is via a cave at the base of the cliff, and strong currents, sharp coral reef, and powerful waves make this a spot for intermediate to advanced surfers. The lineup gets very crowded, particularly at The Peak, but the multiple takeoff zones spread the pack out on bigger swells. Uluwatu is a bucket-list wave that delivers some of the most photogenic and high-performance surfing in the world.
